Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - 2

Posted by
Vaido (Võrumaa, Estonia) on 28 September 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

Vestmannaeyjar archipelago consists of 15-18 islands and some 30 rocks around there. One of them is Surtsey island, which was formed in a volcanic eruption which began 130 metres below sea level, and reached the surface on 15 November 1963. The eruption lasted until 5 June 1967, when the island reached its maximum size of 2.7 km².
