Vana komme / Old tradition

Posted by
Vaido (Võrumaa, Estonia) on 24 December 2013 in Cityscape & Urban.

Here in Estonia we believe, that Town Hall Square in Tallinn was first place in Europe, where public Christmas Tree was raised by the Brotherhood of the Blackheads as early as 1441. Although Latvians have their arguments about it, too, the tradition here in Livonia was born centuries before it happened in London, Berlin or Paris.
This year we will not expect any snow for Christmas.

Eestlased usuvad, et siin Tallinna Raekoja platsil toodi jõulukuusk Euroopas esimest korda linnarahvale välja 1441. aastal. Kuna lätlastel on samuti soov sõna sekka ütelda, tegid Ansip ja Dombrovskis sel teemal koguni ühisavalduse :) Igal juhul on traditsioon siin maanurgas juba umbes viis sajandit vana.
