Okta Centrum, Rapla, Estonia

Posted by
Vaido (Võrumaa, Estonia) on 30 November 2021 in Architecture.

This multi-purpose administrative building was designed by architect Toomas Rein and was completed in 1977. The building was crafted as an octagonal space that rises up a central construction. Although the building appears to have many levels, it’s actually just three floors. Everything in the building is octagonal – from the floor plan to the rubbish bins.
In 2015, it was declared as a national cultural monument as a great example of a Soviet-style novel architectural design.
"UFO" and "Pentagon" are the nicknames of the building.

I was thinking that it looks very 70s and very Soviet in style and then I saw your text that confirmed my feelings. Nicely composed and presented here.

@Darkelf Photography: An interesting piece of modern history I visited recently... It was really bad weather and boring sky for taking an interesting shot of that building. But I like documenting places as well and complementing Wikipedia. Sadly, the building is not in use right now, although situating in the middle of the town.
